An incidental post about how my life has changed since I used to do and know about the things that I consider/ed cool and how actually thats alright, seems to have touched on a nerve.

For the record - none of the things I mentioned (myspace, grime etc) were meant to be referenced as things that were ‘cool’ but as an indictaion that my frame of reference is now so far removed from what is ‘cool’ that I probably wouldn’t know what today’s ‘cool’ was if I tripped over it in the street.

Nor was I saying that it matters whether you are cool or not because it doesn’t. I’d much rather I was considered any of friendly, kind, funny, intelligent, passionate, than cool. Terms such as ‘cool’ or ‘fashionable’ whilst complimentary, are all about style over substance. And despite suggestions elsewhere, there is a socialy defined notion of what is ‘cool’ in the same way that there is a socially defined notion of what it is to be ‘nice’ or to be a ‘f**kwit’, its just that the notion of ‘cool’ is much more fluid.

I don’t consider myself to be cool, I don’t want to be cool, I like my life, I like where I work, I like that the gossip I now know is political rather than cutting edge popculture, I like drinking gin and tonics, I like spending my Saturday night’s sat on the sofa watching Dr Who and I like you lot
