Is it me?
I’m about to break the cooking rules, go against cooking folklore and possible incure Boy’s disapproval but, the thing is I don’t think Delia is very good.
There, I’ve said it now. I know she’s the queen of Britsh cooking, teaching the nation to cook for many a year, a national institution and all that and I’m sure she’s probably a lovely lady but well her recipies just don’t seem all that.
This weekend saw an excessive amount of Delia cooking. There was - apple crumble on Saturday night for everyone, which although much appreciation was forthcoming, I thought was a bit too dry and dull and that what saved it was the addition of the nutmeg and extra cinnamon, not mentioned in the recipie. Last year’s was much better.
On Sunday I was fulfiling my loosing part of a bet with Boy and making him a chocolate cake. The cake refused to rise properly, making putting the two parts together somewhat awkward, producing something of a lopsided cake and I fear it’s likely to be a tad crunchy on the edges, which no amount of icing is going to hide…I was making better cakes than this when I was eight!
I’ve even tried making Delia’s scrambled eggs, instructions followed to the letter, but housemate D does them better.
And I’d like to think that it’s not because I’m a bad cook, that you lot haven’t just been being polite evrytime I’ve cooked for you. And yes Laurie and have had our fare share of disasters over the years but we’re *much* better now.
Until further evidence is produced I’m putting my faith in Delia on hold and reverting to the BBC’s excellent recipe finder. That is until you all tell me I suck and maybe I could learn a few things from Delia, but you wouldn’t do that to me, would you?

Delia saved norwich from bankruptcy and put us in the premier league. I’ll put up with some dodgy crumble. I’m sure the cake is very nice too… Cake for me, humble pie for you.

Know what you mean. Delia’s flapjacks are always too soggy - too much syrup and butter, not enough oats. Or maybe that’s Nigella…
