Spring Cleaning

Sitting at the bottom of our stairs on Friday morning, putting my boots on before I rushed out of the house, trying not to be late for work again, out of the corner of my eye I saw something move. And there crawling over the pile of junk mail and post belonging to the former tenants, that gets kicked into the corner of our hall, was an ant. Not just one ant but several ants, scuttling over and under the large pile of unwanted mail that had accumulated. It was at that stage that I swore, grabbed my (ant free) bag and slammed the front door loudly behind me.

Friday evening saw three Warwick grads trying to a) find our vacuum cleaner, b) work out how to change the bag c) was it meant to be making that noise? d) surely the burning smell was a bad sign?

Our Friday night hoovering activities (we’re so cool) inspired something of a spring clean today. Bathrooms have been scrubbed until spotless, floors swept clean, dishes washed, mirrors cleaned until they sparkled, surfaces dusted for the first time in who knows how long. The house, for once, looks less like our student houses of yore and more like the respectable terraced house of four young professionals it actually is.

As Housemate D and I sat down for a well earned cup of tea, feeling really quite pleased with ourselves and surprised by how tiring cleaning actually is, (perhaps thats why we dont do it more often) a mouse ran across the kitchen floor.

Buying: mousetraps (humane ones obv)
Stocked up on: all the cleaning products in the world
Listening to: Garbage Temptation Waits

So now I can comment, is the mouse ending just a well written story? Or did it really happen?

It really did happen, it was sat in the corner of our kitchen as though it owned the place and then trotted (i’m sure mice trot) behind the washing machine. Currently following a policy of if it doesn’t bother us, we won’t bother it. It probably just came to admire the immaculately clean kitchen anyway ;-)
