Submitting articles to Afterlife

If you'd like to submit something to Afterlife, we'd like you very much. Even more than we do already. We don't care what it is, as long as it's well written, relates to your experiences in some way, and is something other people are likely to care about - although if it's something you're unsure of, go ahead and post it anyway. The worst you can expect is stony silence and lack of comments. But people will still read.

How to submit articles

You can submit articles in one of three ways:

1. Sign on using your Afterlife username and password.
2. If you've not already got one, you can mail me at matteltonAThotmail.com, and I'll be happy to send out one of your choice.
3. Alternatively, you can e-mail the article direct: it's best if you don't go via this route, however, since article attribution is a bit more difficult. And I like it when articles appear on the site by themselves.

What we're looking for

- Main content

Anything that you feel compelled to write an article of long prose on - know we've said this before, but literally anything at all. Seriously. If it's long, it'll be divided, and most of it put on the main page, but some may be added to an "extended", off-frontpage section. Titles may be edited for length, but apart from that you shouldn't get any changes made. Don't forget to add a title, choose a category, and write a short description in the "excerpt" box.

- Artwork

Artlyness is hugely encouraged, not only because people that can draw in some way are hugely sexy, but also because, otherwise, the top left of Afterlife won't get changed very often.

Make sure your image is 442 pixels wide - this is the width of the left-hand column. Pictures of between 150 and 200 pixels high please me the most, and if you want a byline, don't forget to credit yourself underneath the image itself (although don't stress if you forget, cos we can add that later.)
Don't forget, if you'd rather send pictures to us via e-mail rather than submitting them direct, this is fine too - just send them to matt.elton@gmail.com.

- Questions or lists

Want to contribute, but don't want to write a long piece of prose? That's cool too. If you've got a question you want to ask the (potential) masses, simply make sure it's filed in the "Node" category. Similarly, lists must be filed in the "Five Things" category - in this instance, make sure they're numbered from 1 to 5, and are given an appropriately linking title. And that's it!

Other stuff

Occassionally, if we feel like it, we'll ask someone to write a specific article based on something we know they're going to see or do, or that they're particularly well-placed to talk about. Other than that, it's a free-for-all: don't worry about someone else writing something you want to, or there being three thousand things on, say, Big Brother. It'd be much better to have three articles on the Scissor Sisters than none at all, in other words.
